Why Tyrus Thomas shouldn't be the Number One Pick

First and foremost, what difference is there between Thomas now and Stromile Swift 5 years ago? Nothing, and we've seen what a great pro Swift has turned out to be.

Second, Tyrus Thomas has only REALLY played about 15 games of good basketball in his entire life. In high school, he was clearly more athletic than everyone so he just jumped over them. In college, he redshirted his first year and didn't do anything spectacular until January, fading in and out until playing awesome in the Tournament. You would think scouts would start figuring out that athletic, tall forwards with no face-up game, no jump shot and no post game aren't the best BASKETBALL players to spend lottery picks on, but it appears not.

Sure he can jump out of the gym, but so can everyone else in the NBA.

Here's my prediction, Thomas is a top 3 pick, then spends his entire first season either struggling or on the bench. After that, he'll hang on in the league, but he will NEVER make an all star team. You heard it here first.

so who is the first pick? Aldridge? Bargnani? I'll give you this is a pretty weak class all around. Guys like Thomas (and perhaps Bargnani) are at a premium because there is so much room for improvement, while Roy and Morrison have likely shown everything they will ever have. Thomas might never make an all-star team, but there is a chance that he will make a bunch of them. That chance is what the draft is all about (See, e.g. Garnett, Kobe, McGrady)
